There comes a day in the life of every Dav Pilkey fan where they finish reading all of his books that he’s written so far and must face the dreaded Wait until the next book release.
To help our young patrons through such trying times, we have humbly compiled a list of some Pilkey-esque series that may help ease the wait.

The Bad Guys by Aaron Blabey A wolf, a shark, a piranha, and a snake decide they want to turn their lives around and become Good Guys. Now if only the rest of the world would cooperate. This series is heavier in illustrations and lighter in text, so it might be a good one for enticing reluctant readers. |

Bad Kitty by Nick Bruel Fans of the beloved picture book series will be happy to know that everyone’s favourite kitty is even more naughty than they realized – sometimes she causes so much trouble you need whole chapter books to properly recount her escapades! |

Here's Hank! by Henry Winkler A funny series about the unique sorts of challenges that come with being a kid with undiagnosed learning disabilities in Grade 2 and the equally unique ways the character finds to overcome those obstacles. Based on the author’s own experiences growing up with undiagnosed dyslexia. |

King Flashypants by Andy Riley A series with a very cartoony vibe about a boy with a crown, a castle, a kingdom, and a lot of foes to vanquish. Being King of Edwinland isn’t all fun and games, you know. |

Lunch Lady by Jarrett J. Krosoczka What do lunch ladies do when they’re not, y’know, serving lunch? They’re serving JUSTICE, that’s what! |

Magic Pickle by Scott Morse There’s a sentient pickle that has superpowers and fights against enemies such as the Brotherhood of Evil Produce and the Creature from the Black Legume. Also, the pickle is kosher. What else could you possibly want? |

The Rotten Adventures of Zachary Ruthless by Allan Woodrow Like in Captain Underpants, the stories centre around two pals going on zany adventures with lots of laughs and pictures to break up the text. Unlinke in Captain Underpants, the protagonist wants to be a villain! If your child enjoys the antihero/protagonist villain aspect of this series, they will likely also enjoy Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer (though depending on your child’s reading level it may work best as a book for you to read aloud to them). We currently only have the first book in the series in our catalogue, but should your kiddo want to read more of Zachary’s dastardly adventures, we can arrange for an interlibrary loan of the book from another library system. We’re connected. We know people. |

The Rover Adventures by Roddy Doyle The Mack children must join forces with Rover (a talking dog) and the Gigglers (magical pranksters who exact appropriate revenge on adults who have been mean to children) to try to stop the prank that the Gigglers have mistakenly set in motion to punish the children’s father. |
