Creeptastic Stories for Mini Horror Fans

June 6 2021

Children like being spooked just like adults. So we've gathered some fun scary stories beyond the usual Haunted Canada and Goosebumps recommendations to keep your kiddos entertained.

As usual, all of our suggestions can be found in our catalogue.

For Beginner Readers

Eerie Elementary series by Jack Chabert

Made specifically for children transitioning into early chapter books, the series features the spooky adventures of children who attend a school that is alive... and angry.

For Older Readers

The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman

A creepy tale about a boy who was raised in a graveyard by ghosts. If they like the book, the author has written another great scary story for kids called Coraline.

Rowley Jefferson's Awesome Friendly Spooky Stories by Jeff Kinney

A must-read for fans of Diary of a Wimpy Kid (which is also written by Jeff Kinney), the book is a bit of horror mixed with a bit of comedy.

Nightmares! by Jason Segel

When Charlie Laird's nightmares start slipping into the real world, he has to find a way to make them stop in order to save his town. The first book in a trilogy, it was described by Publishers Weekly as a bit like "Coraline meets Monsters Inc."
